چکیده

Abstract The paper deals with the identification of the delamination in composites on the basis of the information for the displacements from the surfaces of damaged bodies. The identification of the active delamination region on the interface between two layers of given composite material is a non-linear programming problem that consists of minimization of a Kohn-Vogelius type of functional [3] with respect to some set of design variables defined from the parameterizing of the delamination region. In the past, classical non-linear programming techniques, like SQP, have been used for solving this problem. For the given requirements, this delamination region is preliminary unknown in shape, dimensions and position. Going back from this well-posed problem, for the Euler-Lagrange equations obtained from a new formulation of the Kohn-Vogelius functional we derive here a direct method for the solution of the inverse problem of delamination. It leads to a computational reconstruction method for finding interlaminar cavities from the measurement of the surface displacements.

Buckling of Laminates with Multiple Through-the-Width Delaminations Using Spring Simulation Model

Delamination is one of the most common failure modes in composite structures. In particular, when the laminated composites are subjected to compressive loads, delamination becomes a constraint in the design process. In this study, the system is modeled as a plate supported by an elastic foundation. The elastic adhesive layer between the buckled sublaminates is represented by some parallel sprin...

Two-dimensional Axisymmetric Electromechanical Response of Piezoelectric, Functionally Graded and Layered Composite Cylinders

A mixed semi-analytical cum numerical approach is presented in this paper which accounts for the coupled mechanical and electrical response of piezoelectric, functionally graded (FG) and layered composite hollow circular cylinders of finite length. Under axisymmetric mechanical and electrical loadings, the three-dimensional problem (3D) gets reduced to a two-dimensional (2D) plane strain proble...

Buckling Analysis of Variable Angle Tow Composite Plates with One Circular Delamination

Advanced carbon-fibre composite materials are increasingly used as primary structural components in aviation and aerospace industries due to their high stiffness-to-density ratio. The design of composite aerostructures is required to meet a number of safety criteria, in particular, the damage tolerance. Delaminations, which are caused by the impact of foreign objects (tool drops, runway debris,...
